"You're a Tri-ling, Kyra. You'll face extra scrutiny because of that." Professor Maxwell — (audio)Listen (file info)[source]

A Tri-ling was an exceptionally unique magical being. Beyond a Halfling, a Tri-ling was a hybrid of three different species. There was a Tri-ling council, which Lee Young, Kyra Glen's biological father was a part of.

There was also an ancient civilization of Tri-lings known as Udon, which was permanently destroyed by elves and fairies.

Biography[]

In the old days, the human-elf-fairy Tri-lings were persecuted by pure-blooded elves and fairies because of the latters' belief that blood purity gives them the right to rule for while the tri-lings are only meant to serve. These tri-lings also had their own society, Udon, which was permanently destroyed by their predators. Because of the persecution, a Tri-ling named Vannaq, despite the consequences that would ensue, had dedicated his life to build a Purple Lotus with the intention of siphoning all the elves' and fairies' magic across the world, as means to prevent future persecutions of the Tri-lings, leaving both elves and fairies without their powers while leaving the Tri-lings unharmed. He eventually built a Lotus in Cambodia, and created three keys to activate the Lotus which would need the magic of the Orb of Lemuria to be effective. He wrote down his plans of creating the Lotus on his scrolls in the Khmer lanquage. Because the Orb was not found during his time, the plans of activating the Lotus were delayed, however, the searchs for the Orb were continued.

At some point, a secret organization of the Tri-lings known as "the Tri-ling Council" was formed with the sole purpose to find the Orb and fulfill Vannaq's dreams of ridding the world of elves and fairies by activating the Lotus.

Natural Abilities[]

  • Animal Communication: As a part-fairy, Kyra has the ability to communicate with any animal via telepathy. She first used this ability accidentally when she was walking a dog, Doris she had heard the dog’s thoughts.
  • Invisibility: As both fairy & elf, Kyra has the ability to control the way humans see, she can turn invisible so that all fairies and elves can see, but not humans.
  • Superhuman Speed: As Kyra is part Elf, she has the power to move and run at supernatural speeds, as shown in "All the World's a Stage" she discovered this ability accidentally when she was running on the basketball court, when Lily told her it was an elf power.
  • Telekinesis: As part-elf Kyra discovered she has the ability to move objects with her mind, as transmit the power through her pointer & middle finger through a blue light in her fingers.
  • Teletransportation: She first used this ability in "A Magical Mishap" accidentally when her fingers glowed she had teleported to Antarctica, but Imogen came and teleported her back.
  • Aura-Detecting: After being taught to use this ability by Darra, Kyra has the ability to detect different aura's.
  • Transformation
    • Animal Transformation: As shown in "Aisle 13", Kyra was able to transform Professor Maxwell, into a guinea pig, by she pushing her hands out, by being supercharged by Orb of Lemuria in the elementary text.

Weaknesses[]

  • Distraction: Preventing a tri-ling from concentrating or giving full attention to their spells, may render them ineffective. Since most spells must be activated in a unique way and take time to take effect, tri-lings were vulnerable to being subdued before their completion. Additionally, certain spells might require prerequisites (e.g., select items, tools, and/or special events) during their casting, and therefore they could not be invoked on mere whim.
  • Emotion - Like all living creatures, a triling's magic was subject to the influence of their emotional state, and may fluctuate according to them when untrained. For example, during her early days of discovering her magic, Kyra unintentionally triggered her teletransportation abilities, and teleported to Antarctica.
  • Magic - Despite being magical in nature themselves, the trilings, despite their own but immense raw magical power, were still subject to the forces of the supernatural world, and magic.
  • Mortality - Due their unique lifespan, which might been influenced by their unique morphology, tri-lings were still mortal, and able to be killed.
  • Unique Physiology - Based on the individual set of inherited species, they could inherit some of the weaknesses of their parental species. For example, a elf-fairy-human triling was immune to the magic of the Purple Lotus, and were able to retain their magic, while regular fairies and elves, and even half-lings were greatly affected and removed of their magic by the Purple Lotus's dangerous magic-removing effects that spread worldwide.

Known Tri-lings[]

Trivia[]

  • Presumably Tri-Ling offspring become halflings if they have children with one species long enough; logically one of the three lineages would become recessive.
    • Proven true with human lineage as Kyra had no magical awareness or abilities until Imogen and Lily's combined magic zapped her; suggesting that a tri-ling with more human ancestry needs exposure to magic to gain theirs
  • The triling racism is similar to the history of African-Americans; where they were abused and used for slave labor.
